Construction sector adds 19,000 jobs in August; ConstructionCrossing is able to find 4,000 jobs

Pasadena, CA — The construction sector was one of the main industries which added jobs in August. The industry hired over 19,000 workers in August according to the latest jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The main reason for this spurt in construction employment was the end of the strike in the industry after which several thousand returned to work. According to Ken Simonson, the chief economist at the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), the industry can at best be described as being in the neutral as far as adding jobs is concerned. He also mentioned that overall construction spending was at its lowest level in a decade.

The federal stimulus managed to offset some of the decreased spending by giving money for public housing and reconstruction and maintenance of roads, sewage, and water facilities. The industry is also pinning hope on Congress agreeing to President Obama's $50 billion proposal to strengthen the country's infrastructure by building and upgrading roads, highways, and railways.

A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of ConstructionCrossing, says ''There are jobs in the construction sector, although there is no specific area which is going through a boom. The work is spread around small projects throughout the country, and the best way to get a job out there, is by being the first guy there.'' Barnes' website ConstructionCrossing specializes in tracking down all construction related jobs and it has been able to find over 4,000 jobs.

Testimonial of the Week

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.

I like the volume of jobs on EmploymentCrossing. The quality of jobs is also good. Plus, they get refreshed very often. Great work!
