With the good employment prospects in the construction industry until 2018, many people can expect to find thousands of available jobs construction. Skilled laborers are particularly in demand in most projects, whether for full construction work or for repairs of various infrastructures by private companies or by the government.

Construction jobs for skilled workers such as pipe-fitters, electricians, brick masons, insulation workers, cement masons, concrete finishers, structural iron and steel workers, carpenters, drywall installers, tapers, pipe layers, plumbers, pipe-fitters, steam-fitters, plasterers, terrazzo workers, and many more line up the priority list for construction employment.

With the overall projected employment growth rate of 19 percent in construction work until 2018, there is no dent of employment for anyone interested or who has the skills and experience in this field. Construction managers, for example, will also experience good employment prospects as more projects that call for full construction, repair, or rehabilitation from both the government and the private companies increase.

This is especially true in States where the growing population will demand the creation of more jobs construction to respond to additional residential buildings and schools. Some areas with an increasing elderly population will also see the need for more healthcare facilities.

Roads, bridges, tunnels, and utility construction or repairs will also drive up construction employment. Government funding support for these projects always gets the majority vote of the public because of their significant uses. For these projects, construction managers, site engineers, and first-line supervisors will be needed. The bigger the project, the more people and more structured systems are needed to be put in place. This means that construction jobs for administrative, financial, clerical, and other office-based people will also be created.

For those who have had several years of experience in jobs construction like the skilled laborers, site engineers, construction supervisors, site superintendents, or construction managers there are more opportunities as well for rising up the ladder and build a construction career. Skilled laborers, for instance, can already apply as construction supervisors, while site engineers or site superintendents can move up as construction managers.

Construction supervisors also have an advantage in their job to apply as site superintendents and later even as construction managers. Of course, these various construction jobs have trainings, requirements, and qualifications. While most skilled laborers who are only high graduates can already apply as construction supervisors, the trend for most contractors nowadays is to hire those who have reached college level. Priority, however, is still given to experience and leadership skills. The more experienced they are, so much the better chance for having a construction career as a site supervisor. Most site supervisors are chosen not only for their skills, experience, leadership, and management abilities, but also for their knowledge of union laws. These people were union members when they first worked as skilled laborers so their knowledge of union laws is already an advantage when they have to deal with various grievances and complaints of skilled crews.

Engineers and site superintendents are also good candidates for construction manager positions because of their technical expertise as well as their management and leadership roles already acquired through years of construction work. The transition is also easier for them because they are already accustomed to handling and managing many people all at the same time in each project they are in.

Construction managers, on the other hand, can already move up as contractors. The transition will also be east since the role is almost similar to that of being a manager except that their responsibility is much wider in scope. Either that or he can move his construction career further up and be an officer of a construction firm.

On the other hand, office-based construction employment should not stagnate. People who are holding positions either as an administrative assistant, an accountant, or clerk can also move up the ladder once they have earned enough experience in the same business to become experts in it. They have the chance to move up to senior level positions or even become an executive officer in a construction firm. Promotion for people in this category is easier in big construction firms.

Construction jobs not only have good employment prospects, but there are many opportunities for building a career here-from the skilled laborer to the construction manager.
