Construction employment gains had spread to 201 out of 339 metropolitan areas between July 2012 and July 2013, as per a 13 September report on Construction Equipment Guide.com. Then there was a sudden dip in jobs in the construction sector until most recently. This month sees construction jobs rising again in several states. While the construction job market looks rosy once again after the short slump period between July and September, construction spending and employment levels are still 25% below peak levels from 2006. Barnes agrees that we are still a long way from a full recovery, but says that the construction market definitely looks better than few years back.

While the housing rebound has driven economic growth and create jobs in the construction industry, several new projects in the offing indicate that heydays are back again for construction workers. Few of these projects in Western New York are: the Uniland Development Co.'s 250 Delaware, Ellicott Development's Coffee Rich warehouse conversion, Rocco Termini's Houk and Foundry Lofts in North Buffalo and Paul Iskalo's Hyatt Place Hotel in Amherst. These will bring about the employment of numerous construction workers. Likewise, the America's rail system is creating massive work opportunities for construction workers. The export of coal from Washington and Oregon is estimated to add 11,000 new jobs and just one oil terminal in Vancouver is projected to add up to 250 construction jobs and 120 permanent full-time positions.

The only issue faced by the industry now is that though new construction jobs are being created, there are fewer takers. Stephen E. Sandherr, the Chief Executive Officer of the Associated General Contractors of America says, "with many former construction workers now employed in other industries, a number of firms are likely to have an increasingly hard time finding enough skilled workers if employment continues to expand."
