Construction Project Manager Jobs

A construction project manager plans, directs, and coordinates a wide variety of construction projects, including the building of all types of residential, commercial, and industrial structures such as roads, bridges, schools, and hospitals. A construction project manager schedules and coordinates all design and construction processes, including the selection, hiring, and oversight of trade contractors.
As a construction project manager, one has to coordinate and supervise the construction process from the conceptual development stage through final construction, making sure that the project gets done on time and within budget. A construction project manager also oversees the delivery and use of materials, tools, and equipment; worker productivity and safety; and the quality of construction. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for obtaining all necessary permits and licenses, and, depending upon the contractual arrangements, directing or monitoring compliance with building and safety codes, other regulations, and requirements set by the project's insurers.
A construction project manager must have a bachelor's degree in construction science, construction management, building science, or civil engineering, plus work experience. Practical construction experience, whether gained through an internship, a cooperative education program, a job in the construction trades, or another job in the industry, is also important for construction project manager jobs.
