Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Civil Construction Inspector 2, we'll count on you to:

•Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses for civil projects related to civil infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and miscellaneous facilities

•Collaborate with other field representatives or Project Managers

•Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents

•Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses

•Provide guidance to less-experienced field staff as needed

•Perform other duties as needed 

•Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.

•Calculates payments due contractors for work completed.

•Consults with project engineers, resident project representatives and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.

•Ensures adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects; ensures material tests are performed and materials meet required standards.

•Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.

•Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards; inspects barricades; as required moves traffic control devices and barricades.

•Drives to observe and inspect ongoing construction work.

•Resolves differences in interpretation of plans and specifications.

•Documents work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project.

•Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

•Interprets plans and specifications and negotiates with procedures and suppliers to resolve differences.

•Prepares and reviews correspondence

• Perform other duties as needed','!*!Required Qualifications

•High School diploma or equivalent

•5 years experience

•ACI certification - Grade 1

•Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)

•Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities

•Ability to work independently and as part of a team

•This position typically requires successfully passing drug-screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing

•An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

•Move up to 50 pounds (See essential duties for example of items to be moved.)

•Applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques

•Applicable testing methods, processes and procedures

•The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices

•Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals

•Shows initiative and action beyond what is required to improve products or services; is self-starting and completes assignments independently without constant supervision

•Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups

•Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints and maps

•The use of personal computers and applicable programs, applications and systems

•Maintaining a safe work environment

•Valid drivers license

Preferred Qualifications

•Technical school or Associate degree

•Relevant Industry Certifications

•TxDOT construction procedure experience
