The purpose of this position is to perform technical work reviewing plans or blueprints and specifications submitted with a building permit application for the construction of new residential and commercial structures. Other duties include hosting meetings, receiving and resolving staff questions and citizen complaints, performing field inspections, and ensuring compliance with building codes, zoning ordinances, and other City ordinances, and other duties as required.
DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advise architects, designers, contractors, and owners on code and design requirements
Assists building inspectors with difficult or unusual code requirements.
Prepare and maintain records and reports
Interpret ordinance requirements, applicable fire regulations, and related codes
Maintain working knowledge of current regulations and limitations of all codes and ordinances enforced by the Code Enforcement Division.
Examine plans and specifications of residential and commercial structural, plumbing, electrical and mechanical installation to ensure code and regulations compliance
ensure compliance with subdivision zoning and setbacks; fill out permit and inspection cards.
Requires a working knowledge of International Building Codes
Work requires the occasional direction/mentoring of assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees.
Communications and conflict management skills. Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Associates degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school preferred.
Must obtain Certification as an International Code Council Inspector within one (1) year of employment.
Must obtain Certification as an International Code Council Plan Examiner within two (2) years of employment.
Requires three (3) years’ experience in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering plans, blueprints and drawings
Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
Current Texas Driver’s license
