The Principal Engineer is responsible
for performing detailed engineering tasks including field surveys, analysis,
design, drawing reviews, drawing, calculation and report preparation, as
directed by senior technical staff. The Engineer may be assigned to
several projects concurrently, and on each project assignment may report for
technical direction to a different supervisor.
The Principal Engineer position
requires a minimum of 15 years of experience in Structural Engineering.
Tasks performed are typically well defined and work is closely supervised.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Principal Engineer position is
typically filled by an engineer who has completed a program of undergraduate education
in Civil and graduate in Structural engineering, or the appropriate level
of industry experience.
The PDRs for this position
are intended to permit the Engineer to perform a variety of routine tasks,
which should provide experience and familiarization with the engineering
staff, methods, practices, and programs of the Company. This position requires responsibility
for the direction of other engineers. PDRs include:
Proficient in knowledge and application of engineering guidelines.Proficient in the procedures for preparing calculations.Fully knowledgeable in the procedures for establishing and maintaining project calculation and correspondence files.Acquainted with report, letters and transmittal preparation.Perform project-specific technical tasks, under the direction of project supervisors, meeting project and company quality requirements, within allocated budget and schedule.Prepare and submit time charge records and expense reports in a timely manner, in accordance with Company procedures.
','!*!Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil engineer and a Master of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with 15 years of experience in Structural Engineering.A California Professional Civil Engineering License and a California Professional Structural Engineering License is required.Working knowledge of the ABS Quality and Environmental Management System (ISO 9000/14000)Full knowledge in codes and standards as follows: 2016 California Building Code, ACI, AISC, NDS, ASCE 7-10, ASCE 41. Knowledge of related technical disciplines.Ability to utilize basic personal computer applications for structural engineering including spreadsheets, word processors, email, engineering programs, and Internet browsers as follows:. RISA, SAP, ETABS, Excel, Word, Power PointAbility to efficiently analyze solutions to problems.Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.Ability to work well with others.
