Job Summary:

The Technical Sales Engineer is a member of the BuildingPoint West team covering the entire BP region, AZ, NM, NV, UT, CO, ID, MT, WY, TX and OK

This role combines technical knowledge with sales skills. Key to this role is the comprehensive knowledge and understanding of product(s) or service(s) offered to sell competently through demonstration and verbal explanation; as well as answer any client queries and needs in the pre-sales process as needed by the regional sales representative. The emphasis of the work varies; however the majority of the work will be working with the sales team to perform pre-sales demonstrations, post sales support and training as well as online Webinars to prospects.

Furthermore, the role of a Technical Sales Engineer includes being an “in-house expert” to assist other employees with technical acuity and development. Another vital role is regular connection with all the members of the sales team and co-workers from a range of departments.

Essential Functions:

Working in conjunction with the sales team providing and responding to interest and opportunities with technical presentations, demonstrations, pilots and evaluation with product that meets client needs.

Performing VDC Services, (Scanning, Layout Services, BIM Modeling, Software installation / customization.

Providing training to clients on our product(s) functionality and usability.

Providing pre-sales technical assistance and product information to sales team

Searching for new clients who could benefit from BuildingPoint product(s) or service(s) to maximize client potential in designated region.

Establishing new, and maintaining existing, long –term relationships with Clients.

Interpreting client requirements by working thru a discovery process to better assess, understand, and anticipate client needs.

Assisting in the technical development of the sales team on CAD and Field Layout total stations

Working with different company departments as needed to share information, train or brainstorm for further product development.

Preparing of reports for sales, product management, testing and other senior management

Persuading clients that our product(s) or service(s) best satisfy their needs in terms of quality, price and delivery.

Assisting with client proposals with the Sales Representatives and entering all proposals into CRM.

Assisting in negotiating and closing sales by setting/agreeing on terms and conditions

Offering post-sales support services including onsite training or consulting

Updating and maintaining client contact data in company CRM.

Supporting marketing activities by attending trade shows, road shows, conferences, webinars and other marketing events

Quarterly updates to the BuildingPoint team

Additional Responsibilities:

Working with different company departments as needed to share information, train or brainstorm for further business development.

Preparing of reports for sales, testing and other senior management.

Assisting in the technical development of the sales team on CAD and Field Layout total stations and 3D Laser Scanning  

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Working as an “Expert” in all things Trimble Field Solutions

Strong knowledge of targeted customer prospects and applications for BIM modeling, 3D Laser Scanning and Field layout

Time and territory management skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Skilled computer and MS Office user

Strong CAD / Revit / BIM / VDC for 4D and 5D estimating

Strong Preference for knowledge of Trimble software, Realworks, Trimble Field Points, Edgewise.

Strong understanding of design software platforms.

Work safely at all times. Adhere to all applicable safety policies. Comply with all company policies, procedures and standards.

Travel WILL be required with overnight stays

Education and Experience:

5 or more years of experience in construction estimating or related industry.

Mechanical and educational aptitude to maintain and improve understanding of the application and products targeted at construction positioning, layout, asset management, paper to digital field solutions for QA/QC etc.

Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English, multi lingual (Spanish) a plus.

Existing contacts and relationships within the General Contractor industry

Proof of at least a High School or GED

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift, carry and haul at least 30 lbs for sometimes long distances on construction sites.

The employee frequently is required to call on and visit construction sites, must be able to comfortably walk and safely maintain themselves on an active construction site, sometimes using ladders.

The employee is required to drive within the given territory, sometimes 8 hours.

The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time working in CAD programs, conducting webinars and online training.
