JOB SUMMARY:               Increase profitable sales of gases, welding, safety and industrial products to a specific account base or geographic territory, through own efforts and in coordination with other sales representatives and account managers.  Act as a resource in construction sales for others within the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Represents the company’s various product lines and services to new prospects and existing customers through demonstration, and by explaining the features of each company product and service. Emphasizes benefits of Airgas products and services to potential customers and matches customers’ needs with the appropriate products.

Develops and maintains sales relationships with key assigned accounts within a territory or area.  Identifies and qualifies prospective customers within assigned area or territory and keeps direct manager informed of such information.  Increases sales and margin profit through penetration to assigned accounts and by closing new accounts.

Acts as liaison between customer and company regarding pricing, products, delivery information, payments, service, and inquiries of any kind.

Collaborates with local Red-D-Arc and Airgas Onsite Safety Services sales personnel to maximize Airgas sales in assigned area.

Acts as a resource for other sales representatives in developing and maintaining construction sales within their customer base by assisting them with customer sales calls and providing product and industry training, making appropriate recommendations and presentations. Answers customer inquiries and satisfactorily resolves customer complaints.

Researches and analyzes market data in assigned area or territory to determine new customers, sales volume potential, pricing, and develops a strategy to meet sales targets. Prepares and analyzes sales reports to identify cause and effect relationships due to price increases, strategy initiatives, current market conditions, and other factors.

Quotes prices and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained. Estimates delivery date to customer based on knowledge of production and delivery schedules.

Maintains current product knowledge through participation in company-sponsored training, as well as involvement with outside trade organizations and governmental agencies.

Collaborates with Area VP/General Manager to develop and implement market plan and sales strategy for assigned territory.

Assures sales objectives are met within the established budget. Controls expenses to meet and stay within budget.  

Complete all reports in an accurate and timely manner.

Works safely and meets the requirements of all company safety procedures and rules as prescribed by State and Federal regulations and the Company.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have reliable transportation to travel to and from customer sites, company locations and company vendors. Requires a valid driver's license and personal vehicle with insurance coverage as required by the company.

Ability to perform data entry in a computer and extract information on orders.

Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines and sales objectives. Must have the ability to multi-task.

Must be able to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.

Must have excellent time management and follow-up skills.

Must have the ability to use tools, routinely lift between 25 and 75 lbs., climb, reach and perform various physical maneuvers to meet the essential function of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation if required.

Requires intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Must have a high level of energy, be as self-starter, and have a strong customer service and relationship orientation.

Must present a professional presence and demeanor that is reflective of a corporate image.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or GED equivalent plus a minimum of three (3) years industry experience required.  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulations, sales reports, safety rules and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and electronic correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate information to all levels of management professionally.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form.
