The Maritime Planning Team develops conceptual plans for port goods movement and intermodal rail operating facilities. Our clients include marine terminal operators, public port authorities, railroads, labor management organizations, and investment banks. WSP USA’s planning team created PRIME, a unique integrated planning and analysis platform, used by WSP’s maritime planners worldwide, and the focus of continuing innovation. The Maritime Technical Excellence Center at WSP USA provides diverse strategic consulting, planning, engineering design, and construction management services for the ports and intermodal market sector. WSP USA is currently seeking a motivated Senior Port and Rail Planner

in our Oakland, California

office to lead marine and intermodal terminal operations analysis and planning efforts, assist with client relationship management, and execute projects across North America and internationally. The position offers ample opportunities to work on major port, marine, and intermodal rail projects, to work with a broad team of experienced professionals, and to participate in the continuing development of innovative systems and technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Port and facility master planning

Maritime and rail operational site planning

Operations analysis

Capacity modeling

Cost modeling

Phasing and development programming

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Ten (10) years of experience in the ports, marine, and/or intermodal rail design markets

Five (5) years of experience in leading personnel with diverse backgrounds; developing client relations; successfully winning project work; developing and maintaining project scopes, schedules, budgets; and mentoring staff

Excellent oral and written English communications skills

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field

Professional registration in a design profession

Ability to travel internationally without constraint

Possession of, or eligibility for, a TSA Transportation Worker Identity Credential

Mastery of Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project

Preferred Qualifications

Master of Science in related field

Self-directed and self-motivated

Experience in transportation terminal operations

Experience in use of Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Visual Basic

Strong presentation skills

Strong graphical sense

Demonstrated ability to market or sell professional services
