Pasadena, CA — The construction industry gained the most jobs in California in February, adding 15,500 jobs compared to January. Texas was the state to lose the highest number of construction jobs at 4,300 layoffs.

The data is taken from the Associated General Contractors of America, which itself analyzed employment data from the Labor Department. After California, Georgia was with 5,000 jobs, North Carolina with 4,500 jobs and Florida with 4,400 jobs. In states with the highest number of layoffs, after Texas came New York with 4,100 jobs and Colorado with 2,700 jobs.

Overall, employment in the construction sector went up in 30 states from January to February (including D.C.), while there were 18 states where employment fell and stayed the same in the remaining three states. Washington D.C. gained the most construction jobs in terms of percentage at 5.8 percent (600 jobs).

A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of ConstructionCrossing, says ''There are jobs in the construction sector, and most of the states are creating jobs again in this sector. The work is spread around small projects throughout the country, and the best way to get a job out there, is by being the first guy there.'' Barnes' website, ConstructionCrossing, specializes in tracking down all construction related jobs and it has been able to find over 4,000 jobs so far.
